Home Maintenance Checklist for the Spring

It may not feel like it right now, but spring is right around the corner! And the winter weather has given you plenty of time to think about potential home improvements that you’d like to tackle once the temperature gets warmer. But before planning on any home improvements, it’s a good idea to do some simple maintenance checks around your house.

Below we have included a maintenance checklist for you to consider when planning your spring home improvement projects!

Replace HVAC Air Filters

This is a must! It is highly recommended that you replace your air filters every 3 months. After spending the majority of the winter in your home, it’s time for a breath of fresh air this spring. If you have anyone in your household with allergies, replacing your air filters is of great benefit as well! Put this at the top of your home maintenance checklist this spring.

Re-seal Doors and Windows

Whether you are trying to keep out the elements or pests, re-sealing your doors and windows is never a bad idea as a home improvement project. Do a scan of all the points of entry into your home and evaluate whether or not they need to be re-sealed. Take advantage of inexpensive rubber door sweeps, they can go a long way towards helping you re-seal your home.

Paint Touch-Up

This can apply to the interior or exterior of your home. If a full re-painting is not on the cards for you this spring, maybe a few paint touch-ups should be on your radar. Paint can wear down over time (especially outside), so keeping your paint looking fresh and new is a great home improvement project heading into the warmer months.

Clean Your Gutters

This is one of the least attractive home improvement projects, but it is incredibly important that you regularly clean your gutters! If they are not routinely cleaned it can result in water damage and the rotting of your roof. Whether you do it yourself or hire someone else to do it for you, make sure your gutters are cleaned this spring.

Pressure Wash

Many people don’t own a pressure washer themselves, so renting a pressure washer or hiring someone to help you pressure wash is a great idea this spring! A pressure washer helps you eliminate the grime and mildew from your home siding, windows, sidewalk, and driveway. Trust us, you’ll be surprised how much has built up over time!

Re-organize

When the weather gets warmer it’s also a good time to consider decluttering your home and getting rid of anything that you might no longer need. Do an analysis of your storage areas, you might be surprised to find how much room you can create by re-organizing or getting rid of some unnecessary items. With extra storage area, it might inspire some more ideas for home improvements!

Keeping your home operating efficiently and at a high level is vital. These may not be the most glamorous of projects but taking advantage of the suggestions above can be a great first step to some larger home improvements plans down the road.
