Roundhouse & Winery Tour (Northeast Ohio)

Tuesday, June 11, 2024

This trip has a little of everything! We will leave our Yauger Road service center at 7:45 AM and arrive at the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum near Sugarcreek. The ferroequinologist in you (that’s a train buff) will love the tour of this fully operational, 18-stall roundhouse and turntable including locomotives, rail cars, and machinery from several eras.

Then, it’s lunch and wine tasting at one of Ohio’s premier vineyard restaurants, the Gervasi Vineyard in Canton. Enjoy a mixed flight of three wines and a private luncheon of Chicken Parmesan, salad, bread, and dessert. There’s some time to stroll or sit in the carefully landscaped and manicured grounds.

Next, your sweet tooth will love a visit to Harry London Chocolates before we stop (and shop) at P. Graham Dunn’s Factory Store (Dalton), a 20,000 sq. ft. retail store and outlet that offers a bird’s eye view of the manufacturing process of some of the interesting, inspirational and unique décor and gift items available here. (Not a shopper? Then relax at the lake next to the store.)

Finally, it’s time for a stop for ice cream or coffee (our treat) at the Village Point Market in Hayesville, a café and shop that is part of “a family’s journey toward revitalization of their hometown”.

We should be back at the Yauger Road service center by approximately 7 pm.

Cost per person: $125 includes motorcoach, museum admission, wine flight and luncheon with gratuity, and a coffee or treat.

Put-in-Bay Tour (South Bass Island | Lake Erie)

Wednesday, August 7, 2024

Leaving our Yauger Road service center at 7:00am, we’ll travel by motorcoach to Port Clinton, then board the Jet Express for a 30 minute ride on Lake Erie to the village of Put-in-Bay on beautiful South Bass Island. Our island tour train will take us on a narrated tour of the island and harbor, then to a restaurant lunch at the Crew’s Nest.

Afterwards, we visit The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay Aviary with over 50 species of butterflies. Stop next door and see the antique car collection too. We will visit Ohio’s oldest family-owned winery (since 1888), Heineman’s Winery and get a sample of their wine with an optional tour (down steps) to see Crystal Cave, the world's largest geode.

Finally, some free time to shop in the village stores and markets, relax in the lakeside park or journey over to the Visitor Center (free) at Perry’s Victory Monument. A late afternoon ride on the Jet Express back to Port Clinton is a relaxing end to a fun day. With a fast-food stop (on your own) on the way home, we should return to Yauger Road at approximately 8pm.

Cost per person: $180 includes motorcoach, Jet Express to and from PIB, lunch & gratuity, admission to the Butterfly House, Heineman’s & Crystal Cave.

*A trip to the observation deck of the monument is not included in the excursion due to timing and weather uncertainty. The monument has been closed (due to a lightning strike) for an extended time when planning this day trip.
