Trips
CES Credit Union offers day trips to members as a “thank you” for your membership. We strive for safety and a good time at a good value. A nominal cost covers the transportation and any admission, but most meals are on-your-own. Your credit union escort will handle the details, so you can enjoy the motorcoach ride to your destination. All trips leave from the Yauger Road, Mount Vernon office at the time shown. Payment is expected when you reserve your seat. If you have any special needs, please let us know when you make your reservation. Please note, if you tease the escort, you’d better expect it in return.
Priority is given to members of the Membership Appreciation Program (MAP), a rewards program for members age 50 and higher with a deposits of $3000 or more with CES Credit Union. If you are not yet a MAP member, ask for an application. Members are welcome to take guests (including non-members...we'll work on making them members eventually) along on these trips.

The 2011 Calendar
It may be July, but you’ll feel eerie chills on this trip. We’ll travel to Mansfield for a two hour tour of the historic old Mansfield Reformatory, built in 1886. There will be a lot of steep steps and uneven surfaces to climb up and down, but the trek is well worth it to experience our unique private tour of the facility, which has a castle-like setting recognizable in movies like Air Force One and The Shawshank Redemption.
Next, we will be stopping for a buffet lunch at the Old Jaol Brewing Company in Wooster. This unique restaurant is housed in the old Wayne County jail. From there, we will be heading to the Smucker’s headquarters in Orville, Ohio for a quick, on-the-way stop where you will have a chance to visit the gift shop before we head to Amish County for some more shopping.
You may still be full from lunch, so dinner is on-your-own at Beachy’s Country Chalet Restaurant in Sugarcreek.
After dinner, we will be heading to Wolf Timbers, a federally-licensed educational nature preservation facility that has 3 wolves as its sole inhabitants. We will get to see Nira, Keeley, and Ingo as they interact in their habitat before moving on to our last stop of the evening.
Ending our trip, we will be taking an evening, hour-long lantern tour in historic Zoar Village. Hear the eerie accounts of Zoar’s resident ghosts as we stroll through village and visit the sites of the hauntings before we end the night and head back to Mount Vernon.
Some walking including stairs is involved. Leave at 8:30 a.m. from our Yauger Road center (Returning around 12:15 a.m.) Cost of $99 per person, and covers round-trip deluxe motorcoach, admissions, tours, and lunch.
Our morning begins with our first stop will be in Berlin for a leisurely hour of shopping in the village.
After that, a local step-on guide will meet us to depart for our private tour, teaching us about the Amish way of life. Our first tour stop will be at Heinis Cheese, followed by a visit to Coblentz Chocolates where everyone will receive a free sample.
Enjoy a casual lunch on-your-own at Walnut Creek Bulk Food. This is a great time to shop a variety of kitchen gadgets, jam and jellies, noodles, candy, spices, baked goods, and more to replenish your stock at home.
Then, our tour will move on to Breitenbach Winery. We will receive a behind the scenes tour of the wine making cellar, as well as receiving 5 free samples of wine.
The bus will stop at two more wineries in Amish County as we visit Swiss Heritage Winery, followed by the School House Winery. We will also receive 5 free samples of wine at each of those stops.
As an end to our day, we’ll make an early-evening stop where we will be enjoying a hearty, home-cooked meal at an Amish homestead. Mashed potatoes, baked chicken, roast beef, noodles, vegetables, salad, homemade bread, peanut butter spread, hot and cold beverages, and homemade pies are all on the menu. Following the meal, the family will share a few things about their homestead and their family and what the Amish way of life is like.
Leave Yauger Road center at 7:45 a.m. (Returning around 8 p.m.) Cost of $88 per person, and covers round-trip deluxe motorcoach, admissions, tours, dinner, chocolate sample, and up to 15 wine samples from 3 different wineries. Lunch stop on-your-own.
For this trip, the motorcoach will be our transportation to-and-from Put-in-Bay. Once we arrive at our destination, we’ll jump aboard the Jet Express round trip ferry to the South Bass Island. Upon our arrival, we will be met by a private tour train that includes a narrated historical tour of the island, led by an experienced local guide who will accompany us throughout the day as we experience the beauty and excitement of Put-in-Bay village on South Bass Island. During our private tour, there will be a chance to take plenty of photos of the South Bass Island Lighthouse, along with Perry’s International Peace Memorial, site of one of the biggest victories in the War of 1812.
Following these opportunities, we will be touring the quaint Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where the first recorded incidence of Catholic worship on the Bass Islands occurred in 1680. Today, the church is a beautiful historic site that welcomes visitors. From here we will be visiting Tippers Restaurant for their all-you-can-eat luncheon buffet.
Once you have enjoyed your meal at Tippers you will have a chance to enjoy some leisure time on your own in downtown shops. Enjoy the “end-of-season” sales without the in-season crowds, or visit the Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum. We will also be visiting two of the area’s attractions, the Heineman Winery and Crystal Cave, along with the Butterfly House and Antique Car Museum.
