Mount Vernon man wins $5000 in Savings Sweepstakes
The sixth winner of $5000 in the Savings Sweepstakes presented by CES Credit Union is Tim Strobert of Mount Vernon, Ohio. He was announced as the winner of the random drawing held in early July.

Sandy Coffing, Vice President of Operations, said the sweepstakes has been incredible fun for the staff and members, and “was almost life-changing for some of the winners.” She said the interest in the sweepstakes has encouraged some members to become more diligent of saving money “so the goal of the sweepstakes is being realized for some.”
There is no purchase required for the sweepstakes, and the details are available on the credit union’s website at www.cescu.com.

BOLIVIAN CREDIT UNION EXECUTIVES VISIT CES CREDIT UNION (July 30, 2008)
Six executives from the credit union industry in the South American country of Bolivia were in Mount Vernon Wednesday visiting the CES Credit Union center on Yauger Road. The visit was coordinated by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) for the fact-finding delegation to study and examine best practices of credit union administration and the role of government regulation on financial institutions.
The Bolivian executives are all government and trade industry executives of the Federación Nacional de Cooperativas de Ahorro y Crédito de Bolivia, Bolivia’s credit union trade association, charged with strengthening and modernizing credit union operations. Bolivia is one of Latin America’s poorest countries where much of the population has no access to financial services. The delegation hopes to address the technological and operational challenges for credit unions and dealing with regulatory roadblocks.
Travelling with Thom Belekevich of the WOCCU are Rolando Salazar, Project Director of WOCCU-Bolivia; Antonio Helmut Kierig Von Borries, Executive Secretary of UNIVIV – Union of Bolivian Savings and Loan Financial Entities; Reynaldo Adan Marconi Ojeda, General Manager of FINRURAL – Association of Financial Institutions for Rural Development; Humberto Marcelo Montero Nunez Del Prado, Executive Secretary of ASOBAN – Bolivian Association of Private Banks; Manuel Fernando Prado Guachalla, Executive Secretary of ASOFIN – Association of Financial Entities Specialized in Micro Finance; and Jose Vittorio Valdez Rocha, President of ATC – Technical Association of Bolivian Credit Unions. This was the final stop of a four day trip to the United States. An interpreter helped with communication between the parties.
Thom Collier, State Representative for the 90th House District, addressed the Bolivian executives on his experience as a state legislator now in his fifth term. Collier is a member of the Labor and Commerce Committee and Chair of the Economic Development and Environment Committee in the statehouse, and related how state and federal regulatory requirements add stability to the finance industry and credit unions in particular.
Kelly Schermerhorn, CEO of CES Credit Union, has some familiarity with the Bolivian credit union industry. In 2003 Schermerhorn traveled to Bolivia as part of a World Council of Credit Unions delegation to evaluate software and IT options for a shared branching network for the country’s credit unions. That project helped establish a shared branching system in Bolivia much like the system here in the United States where cooperating credit unions process routine transactions for other credit union members.

CES CREDIT UNION ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEW LOCATION IN LOUDONVILLE
CES Credit Union has announced plans to construct and open a new full-service community credit union office in Loudonville, Ohio during 2008. The announcement by Kelly Schermerhorn, CEO of the Mount Vernon-based not-for-profit credit union identified recently-purchased land at 3030 South State Route 3 (at the South Mount Vernon Avenue intersection) as the site for the new Loudonville/Mohican Office.
Construction should begin soon but an exact opening date has not yet been set. This will be the fifth full-service credit union center for the cooperative, with other locations in Mount Vernon, Delaware and Utica. The credit union has established an interim location (during the construction phase) for CES Credit Union members inside the McClain’s Appliance Store at 246 West Main St. in Loudonville. Starting November 5, 2007, the hours of operation at the interim location will be 9am to 4pm on Mondays and Fridays.
CES Credit Union has maintained a presence in Loudonville since 1983 when CES Credit Union acquired small offices of the Bethpage Credit Union inside the Flxible bus plants in both Loudonville and Delaware. Steady growth of the present CES Credit Union office (housed inside the MCI plant) in Loudonville led to the decision to expand.
Schermerhorn said the “loyalty of the Loudonville area members of CES Credit Union encouraged us to invest in Loudonville and pay them back for their support.”
CES Credit Union was started by factory workers in Mount Vernon pooling their personal resources to start the Cooper-Bessemer Employees Credit Union back in 1953. The credit union now has assets of $106 million and has two offices in Mount Vernon, and one each in Delaware and Utica. The new Loudonville office will also be part of the Shared Branching Network, allowing most credit union members from all across Ohio and the Midwest to transact business at the CES Credit Union office just like they were in their own credit union at no additional cost.
The credit union plans to employ local staff and use local contractors when possible. Progress of the move can be monitored through the credit union’s website at www.cescu.com.
May 1, 2008: The building is on site and prep work for the vestibule is beginning. Trim and siding changes expected. Beginning the ground work for parking lot, driveway and construction of drive-thru canopy including ATM. Brick facade will be installed soon for lower half of building.
